I, hereafter referred to as the Adopter, hereby agree that the animal, described above, is being adopted by me solely as a pet, that is may be bred from, for myself and my immediate family. I agree to the adoption fee of $ , which helps cover Breeder’s expense of raising and caring for the animal. I agree that I will not sell, give away, or otherwise dispose of the above animal, or above animal’s offspring, to any person, dealer, retailer, auction, institute, or any other entity or abandon said animal for any reason.
If at a later date I am unable or unwilling to keep this pet, I agree to first contact Breeder for the option to reclaim this animal at no charge.
I hereby agree to contact Breeder if the animal becomes seriously ill, or develops a condition which may be genetic - thus enabling Breeder to take health traits into consideration when breeding from different lines, so as to improve the pet population. I agree to care for the above described animal in a humane and responsible manner, and follow all of the below terms:
1) Adopter agrees to always provide a companion of the same sex and species for the above described animal. If its companion dies, Adopter will provide another companion, the only exception being if the animal in question rejects a companion.
2) Adopter agrees to provide proper and adequate housing. This includes NOT using pine or cedar bedding, ensuring the cage has proper ventilation, and ensuring the animal is not placed in direct sunlight nor next to a vent or open window. Adopter agrees to regularly clean the cage so the animal is not forced to live in unsanitary conditions.
3) Adopter agrees to provide a proper diet and clean water at all times. Adopter has received a guideline about proper diet, including a recipe for a homemade diet. Adopter understands the importance of proper nutrition for the animal and will meet those needs as best as possible.
4) Adopter agrees to provide proper medical care if the above described animal becomes ill or is injured. Adopter understand that all animals, regardless of size or initial price, need medical care at some time in their life. Adopter is aware he/she can ask Breeder for a list of recommended veterinarians if needed.
5) Adopter understands that the above described animal is healthy on the day of adoption. If the animal falls ill after the adoption day, Breeder is in no way responsible, but is willing to take the animal back if Adopter chooses not to care for the animal through its time of illness. Adopter also understands he/she is not entitled to a refund if he/she chooses to return the animal.
6) Adopter understands and agrees that all animals he/she currently has must be healthy at the time of adoption of the above described animal. Adopter also understands the importance of quarantine and agrees to follow proper procedures to ensure the health and safety of the above described animal and any current animals being cared for.
7) Adopter understands and agrees that should he/she no longer be able to properly care for the above described animal that he/she can return it to Breeder. Should Adopter return the animal, he/she understands he/she is not entitled to a refund or replacement.
8) Adopter understands and agrees that if the above describe animal is intended to be a gift that Breeder is to be notified. Adopter also understands and agrees that any person receiving said animal as gift is also to follow the terms outlined in this contract. Adopter understands and agrees that if the situation does not work out as planned, Breeder has the right to demand the animal back and Adopter is not entitled to a refund or replacement.
9) Adopter understands above described animal may be bred. Adopter understands he/she is to work closely with Breeder to discuss progress as well as problems, and to help with the future betterment of this species as pets.
10) Adopter understands that should above described animal be bred, he/she is responsible to properly care for said animal and all offspring. Adopter understands his/her responsibility to house all resulting offspring and to find said offspring appropriate, permanent homes.
11) Adopter understands that if he/she chooses to place offspring of above described animal with other breeders, that he/she must first discuss this with Breeder. Adopter understands Breeder must approve and be in contact with all breeder homes said offspring will go to. Adopter also agrees that Breeder has the right to first pick (after Adopter) of offspring of above described animal.
12) Adopter understands his her responsibility to keep careful records of all offspring from above described animal, including subsequent breeding of said offspring. Adopter understands this helps to improve the overall health of said pets.
13) Adopter understands and agrees that if he/she does not follow this contract, Breeder has the right to demand above described animal be returned and that Adopter is not entitled to a refund or replacement.
14) If Adopter is under 18 years of age, Adopter’s guardian understands and agrees that he/she is also responsible for the care of the above described animal. Guardian agrees to all the above terms.
Adopter’s signature indicates that he/she has reviewed and discussed this contract with the breeder PRIOR to receiving above rat and is in full agreement and approval of the above terms and conditions.
